Is it hard for your son to find other musicians to play with? Would your daughter like to record a CD at a professional recording studio? Would they like to perform in concert with professional sound equipment and lights? Would you like to know that they could do this and more under constant supervision on a college campus with 24-hour security? If so, then I invite you to take a look at our Overnite Program!
Safety First
While our hope for your son or daughter is to have a wonderful experience at Summer Music Programs, our primary concern is for their safety. Harcum College has safety officers on duty 24/7. The floors that house the dorms and rehearsal rooms are swipe card protected. We even have our own exclusive overnight security guard stationed in the hall while the kids sleep. We also have a zero tolerance policy regarding drugs, alcohol, tobacco, weapons etc. For more detail please do not hesitate to contact me directly with any questions or visit our FAQ page.
Our Overnite Program consists of four main components:
1. Rehearsals
Every musician submits a questionnaire prior to attending which provides the information we use to place them in the group best suited for them. Each group is assigned their own instructor who supervises rehearsals, often actually playing and/or singing as part of the group. Each group decides their own song list and band name. Rehearsals take place Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
2. Custom CD graphic session
In the evening each group works with one of our graphics professionals at one of our computer graphics stations to design their own custom graphics. Use photos, clip art or create your own logo. Graphics sessions are scheduled on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings. Click here for some great examples from previous summers.
3. Studio recording sessions
We are extremely pleased to announce that, once again, all Overnite Program groups will record at Grammy award winning Morningstar Studios! Each group attends three different recording sessions: rhythm tracks, overdubs and mixing. Rhythm tracks and overdubs will take place on Thursday while mixing happens on Friday.
4. Grand performance concert
On Friday night each group performs in our Grand Performance Concert! On stage with a professional sound system and lights, every group performs the music they have worked on all week. At the end of the concert, each musician receives a finished copy of the CD that their group designed and recorded.
While the kids do accomplish much in one week, we strive to create an atmosphere that is non-competitive, stress-free and flat-out fun. We encourage all the kids to interact and get to know each other. Many of them stay in touch during the year and even schedule their summer around the weeks when they can play together again at Summer Music Programs. It is especially fun to watch American kids form friendships with our international students. They tell us that they stay in touch and have even exchanged visits!
Please note that while many other camps require enrollments of 4 to 8 weeks, our Overnite Program is a weekly program. We offer three separate weeks along with various discounts. Enroll for just one week or all five! And please remember that we accept enrollments all summer!
Thanks, and we hope to see you this summer!
Sincerely,
Chet Makowski
